On May 7th, the UCLA community had the opportunity to become familiar with the work of the newest member of the UCLA Department of Architecture faculty: Dr. Edwin Chan. Chan presented a picture slide show of his work and travels, accompanied by an informative yet pleasant lecture regarding his twenty year (and counting!) collaboration with acclaimed Los Angeles based architect, Frank Gehry. The two men and their partners specialize in glass architecture.  Their work involves molding glass into special curvatures to create an open feel inside a building. Their goal is to foster social connections and to move the world away from what seems to be an increasingly hermetically sealed environment. Chan and Gehry's works range from commissions for the Ronald McDonald Foundation for Children with Cancer to motorcycle exhibitions for BMW. Their buildings can be seen anywhere in the world, from the Guggenheim Museum in Spain to the Disney Concert Hall right here in Los Angeles.
