Afghan-Americans:
Before 9/11, they were an oft-overlooked, underrepresented, minority in the United States, treated as second-class citizens and accused of not being "true" Americans. After 9/11, Americans began noticing Afghan communities in the States. Unfortunately, this also resulted in the sprouting of anti-Afghan and anti-Muslim sentiment. Now that even the hype and hatred has subsided, let us take a look at these displaced people who have lived for decades in this land (foreign to them), and still have immense trouble assimilating. In search of an identity they can call their own, these Afghan-Americans continue to strive for the American Dream, a plight that resonnates with all immigrants nationwide.
