Awaken A Capella presented their Spring Concert at Northwest Campus Auditorium at 8:30 PM on June 4th. Over 200 people witnessed this end-of-the-year performance, which included amusing skits and creative vocals. After introducing themselves via a witty method entitled “roll call,” Awaken sung twelve songs. Some included Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered,” Chaka Khan’s “Ain’t Nobody,” Michal Jackson’s “Pretty Little Thing,” and Gavin DeGraw’s “Chariot.” Occasionally, the group performed brief skits as segues to their subsequent vocal pieces. The skits illustrated memorable events in Awaken history and comically forecasted the future. Near the end of the night, the group presented flowers and special recognitions to three noteworthy members: Jessica Freedman, Cynthia Wennstrom, and Michelle Surowiec.  The concert concluded as Awaken Alumni joined this year’s group in their singing of Madonna’s “Like a Prayer.”

Awaken is the oldest a capella group in Southern California.  The thirteen members have participated in numerous events, including UCLA’s Dance Marathon, Spring Sing, the Los Angeles AIDS Walk, the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, and Fowler Out Loud.
