Unlike Webley’s previous albums, The Cost of Living contains even more than his characteristic foot-stompin’, accordion-pumpin’ tunes or somber melodic ballads.  This is also his first album that features his touring band. The strings and percussion accentuate the fervency of Webley’s lyrics and tone of his voice, which ranges from smooth to Tom Waits-like abrasive.  In one sentence, The Cost of Living combines bent romanticism with the quirky “gypsy punk” energy of Gogol Bordello.
