To fans of the Coachella Valley Arts & Music Festival’s Sahara Tent, it is painfully clear that promoter, Goldenvoice largely ignored the draw of people looking to dance in favor of reliable crowd pleasers and buzzing indie bands. Besides the all-too-late addition of British electronic Gods, The Chemical Brothers, performing a DJ set, there ain’t a whole lot to shake a glow stick at. Most of the Sahara Tent fillers are either come-backs that no one necessarily wanted or overhyped, overblogged artists who seem a little more focused on the party than delivering the tunes, but why not return to where it all began?

Detroit’s annual Movement Festival will be taking place May 23, 24, and 25 in the birthplace of techno. Among rumored Coachella act, The Prodigy (!!!), the festival will feature some true American heroes such as Afrika Bambataa, Flying Lotus, and the godfathers of Detroit techno, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, and Carl Craig. In addition, there will be a strong european presence from the likes of Adultnapper, Benny Benassi, and Ellen Allien.

Detroit Techno sound a little bit inaccessible? Take a stroll down memory lane…

Anyone wanna carpool to Detroit?
