Crazy Drivers

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

…who are surprisingly not from Los Angeles AND not getting tickets.  A couple weeks ago I brought up how crazy drivers are in India, and said that I would put a video up of it on the blog. It has been a while since I mentioned it, so I deeply apologize to all of the fervent listeners/blog readers who obviously have noticed my tardiness but were kind enough not to speak up.  Here it is now for your perusal.  And if you have no idea what I am talking about with this India driving thing then you need to start listening to Post Rock Paper Scissors on Tuesdays at 2-4 with Armand.

Beirut’s “March of the Zapotec/Realpeople Holland”

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

For those of you that liked, loved, or even got kinky with the first beirut albums than I have a pleasant news for you.  Earlier this year Beirut released their newest album March of the Zapotec/Realpeople Holland. I got the album when it first came out and I was iffy on the new sound that beirut was putting out…. however after listening to it a few times I now hold it in extremely high standing. HOORAY!! Realpeople refers to the former pseudonym of great Zach Condon in his electronic days before he established Beirut.  The album is a delight and I certainly enjoy it thoroughly. Let it grow on you for sure. Enjoy your lives….

Pantera Marathon this Wednesday on Metal Slug

Monday, May 11th, 2009

We here at Metal Slug on uclaradio.com don’t believe in going green.  We’re not big fans of the Prius driving, renewable energy using, biodegradable product consuming, reuse-reduce-recycling craze that’s sweeping the world.  Want to save the environment? Go metal. Because metal makes the world go round.

In order to raise Metal Awarness, this Wednesday from 2-4 PM, we’ll be playing a Pantera marathon, complete with Pantera trivia, fun facts and games.  Call in for your favorite Pantera songs, or just give a shout out to all the Cowboys from Hell tuning in.  And find out how you can reduce global warming by listening to Heavy Metal — especially the Great Southern Trendkill — only on Metal Slug.

Don’t go green. Go Metal. Metal Slug.

Got Talent?

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Are you in a band? Do you think you can dance? Are you currently, or have you ever been part of a dance crew? Can you whistle the National Anthem through your butthole? If you answered yes to any of these (yes even whistling through your butthole), come out and show your talent at Open Mic Night hosted by the Armenian Students’ Association at UCLA.  Just make sure you utilize that bidet before you do any rectal whistling.

Even if you don’t have any talent, come out to Moore 100 this Thursday at 6 PM to see some spoken word, slam poetry, dancing, singing, rapping and all that jazz at Open Mic. The best part: IT’S FREE.

Unibrows-Why They Are Great

Friday, May 1st, 2009

REM guy- hot

NEWS.  Excessive hair on the brow of a male is the most titillating visual treat since Donald Trump’s toupee.  Nothing could be better–it’s like a snuggly couch for your eyes, and perhaps your fingers if you are so lucky.

Besides being gorgeous, unibrows have many other advantages.  It shades one’s eyes from the cruel sun, and provides warmth to those with Cold-Forehead-Syndrome.  It also helps to ease tension between humans and animals, for in the fuzziness of unibrows, furry creatures see a common ally.  Unibrows also can help solve the caterpillar-endangerment problem, for a man an incite a caterpillar mating ritual merely by wiggling his unibrow excitedly.

Unfortunately, males today have become preoccupied with unnecessary grooming habits, like gelling their hair, taking showers, and, worst of all, tampering with the holy masterpiece that is the abundantly hairy eyebrow.  Seeing a man with thin, plucked brows is like looking at a boxer with no hands, or a walrus without a monocle.  One feels tricked, betrayed, as if the universe has reverted all that is good and made it evil.

But there is still time.  The epidemic of skinny brows can be stopped.  If all males now renounce their insidious pluckers and waxing strips, order can be restored to the world.  And once we have eliminated the issue of over-plucking, we can nurture the unibrow as one would a young African orphan, and let it blossom freely on foreheads around the world.

Position/Time at the Station:

B-Vicious: Second quarter at the station, assistant marketing manager.

Connex: Third quarter at the station, also assistant marketing manager.

Show / Show Description:

Both: Front Row Center Fridays 4-6 Concert Guide to Living in LA; promote bands playing live shows in the LA area by sampling their music and describing the event they will be playing at (i.e. where they will play, what time, how much, how to get there). It’s an event calender that includes mostly live music, but sometimes events like stand up comedy and festivals around Los Angeles. We let people know where the good live music is, how much tickets are, and what the artists sound like.

First album you bought:

B-Vicious: There is a good chance it was the first Britney Spears album… I know.

Connex: Art of Drowning by AFI

First concert you went to without your parents:

Connex: Letlive and We Are Lions (Hometown Westchester Show at the Westchester Park Gym)

B-Vicious: KROQ Weenie Roast 2005. I saw Bloc Party, Alkaline Trio, The Killers, Foo Fighters, Interpol, and Audioslave, just to name a few. It was EPIC, especially since it was the first real concert I had seen since my first concert when I was 10, which was Britney Spears too.

Artist you keep telling your friends they should listen to:

Connex: Taking Back Sunday

B-Vicious: Silversun Pickups. They are NOT a reincarnation of the Smashing Pumpkins.

Cheesiest song lyrics you have memorized:

B-Vicious: The Penis Song from Monty Python’s Meaning of Life

Connex: “Weighed down with words too overdramatic, tonight it’s ‘I can’t get much worse’ vs. ‘No one should ever feel like’.” -Dance, Dance by Fall Out Boy
