Crying 4 KAFKA

We need 20-30 extras to play as “fans” for the rock band, CRYING 4 KAFKA, which we will be interviewing this Monday, March 1st at the UCLARadio Station. Crying 4 KAFKA is not any other band, as it was started by the famed Human Sexuality Professor at UCLA, Paul R. Abramson. He was used as an “Expert Consultant” for the D.A. in both Michael Jackson trials, and has authored over 10 books.

The UCLARadio video you will be part of is a music video in the beginning segment. It will then be on our new YouTube Channel!

The biggest kept secret in music history!

Italo Disco

Early last year I was desperately looking for new music to listen to. It seemed like all the music I had collected over the years had just been way too overplayed. I couldn’t stand and still can’t stand listening to “Stairway to Heaven” anymore. Just like anything else, too much of it makes you sick of it!

So anyway, I’ve always had a fascination since I was a kid to play the keyboard or synthesizer. The dream has still never came to fruition, due to time constrains and my mental laziness, but this also adds to the reason why I love 80’s music so much. I agree, a lot of the vocals in 80’s songs are not that great. However, I’m not listening to their voices, but the beats, rhythms, and tones they are using.

One day, I was searching the holy grail of music (YouTube!) and found some song made with synthesizer music. Needless to say, I liked it A LOT! The vocals were mediocre, but the sounds brought absolute jubilation to my ears. I looked at the song description and read that the genre for the song is called “Italo Disco”. At first, I think “huh”? A) This song is in English, not Italian. B) Why Disco?

(The song I was listening to is Phoebus – Frankenstein)

New Broken Social Scene

BSS

Broken Social Scene just released a new track off of their fifth studio album titled Forgiveness Rock Record, which is set to release on May 4 and let me tell you, it already sounds epic. (Especially since it’s been five years since their last album. Sheesh!) If you want to catch them live, here’s your chance because they’re playing at the Fonda on May 3, which only means that you’ll get to hear new material before anyone else does. Well, unless someone leaks the album, but that’s besides the point! They are awesome live and you should try to see them anyways.

Their newest single is titled “World Sick” and you can download their song for free at http://www.brokensocialscene.ca!

The House the King Built

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Lets face the music and dance? Lets talk about music on the real, in America the jazz scene dominated the genres from the 20s and onward up until the fifties.  Of course there was such an influx of jazz during this period so one must break down the genre of jazz even further.  I’m talking my big band jazz and my vocal swing jazz and there literally was no one better in my humble opinion than Nat King Cole.  Nathaniel Adams Cole burst onto the jazz landscape in 1943 with the King Cole Trio and simultaneously signed on with the then infantile and brand spanking new Capitol records label.  From then Cole never looked back, later breaking into a solo career and producing hit after hit after hit throughout the next three decades.

Calvin Harris

Having conquered and topped the charts with over 1 million download sales and successfully sound tracked the summer, Calvin Harris returns with another huge anthemic pop smash in ‘Flashback’ on November 2nd on Columbia Records.

2009 has truly seen Calvin Harris step out of the shadows into becoming one of the UK most unique and engaging pop stars; from his well-documented twittering, his forays into broadcasting with Jam TV, DJing across the globe through to producing world beating songs for artists like Dizzee Rascal & Kylie… And that’s not to mention his continued desire to make every dance floor go off! This year’s winter party anthem has truly arrived. The track is also backed by new mixes courtesy of David Guetta, Eric Prydz & Goldie.

REBEL RAVE featuring Damian Lazarus, Jamie Jones & Seth Troxler

Damian Lazarus

Damian Lazarus is leading the change. He is one of a small number of DJ’s delivering a fresh sonic surge of forward thinking music and new dancefloor perspectives. Best described as dirty and deep, this is electronic house and much more besides. This is a Rebel sound designed for lovers of late night madness, future dance floor classics and cutting edge new ideas. It’s time has come.

With his style and sound developing and keen for some of the new and exciting electronic artists to get the attention they deserve, Damian launched his own label, Crosstown Rebels in 2003. Inspired by the new energy in international club culture, the label’s records offer twisted angles for worldwide party people. Rebels is firmly dedicated to the support and development of the best cutting edge electronic dance music. It loves quality alternative sounds, adores a great party and thrives on creative, young people armed with something new to say. Rebel artists include Pier Bucci, Dinky and Jamie Jones to name a few. Its faultless A&R policy and forward thinking attitude has rewarded it with international acclaim and ‘next big thing’ status. Go to www.crosstownrebels.com and plug yourself in.

Jamie Jones

Over the years my style has varied, but the backbone of my sound has always been deep house, detroit techno and generally anything moody, edgy and groove based. In more recent years I have been producing, and have released records on Crosstown Rebels, Freak N Chic, Poker Flat, Cocoon and Get Physical. As well as various remixes for different labels.

In 2009, I released my debut Album “Dont you remember the future” which has been one of the biggest dance albums of the year. The clubs where you can catch me regularly are Fabric (London), D Club (Luasanne), Back 2 Basics (Leeds), Le Club (Valencia), Tenax (Florence).

Seth Troxler

Seth’s DJ career started in Detroit in 2002 at the age of 16 as a frequent Dj at Detroit club The Works and as a clerk at Detroit’s famous Melodies and Memories record store. With these experiences Seth gained a preternatural understanding of rave, and dance music history, that now allows him to conjours up mixes and tracks like Botticelli conjoured his Venus.

He has played many outstanding international gigs, notably Fabric, Tenax, MUTEK, Panorama Bar, Watergate, Robert Johnson, Detroit Electroinc Music Festival, The Rex, Fuse, Avalon and The End Up. As well as being a resident at Berlin’s legendary Club der Visionäre. Seth is also a bi monthly party host, and resident DJ at Berlin Weekend Club, and Cityfox’s new club Alte Borse in Zurich, w/ friends Ryan Crosson and Shaun Reeves.

Concert Review: Diane Birch, Nick Jonas & the Administration – 29 Jan 2010

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Nick J and the AOkay, UCLARadio.com, do not lose faith in me.  I see you, raising your eyebrows and scratching your heads.  Honestly, I did the same thing when I decided to go to this show.  But this concert proved to me that just because something has the ‘Jonas Brother’ sticker on it, doesn’t mean its not good.  Upon arriving at the Wiltern, I was a tad nervous.  The venue was pretty crowded with pre-teen and high school teenage girls (some who even dressed up for the show).  But, after finding our seats, my friend and I relaxed while singing along to Stevie Wonder, Kings of Leon, and Prince (there was a pretty cool playlist going on throughout the venue).  After waiting and people watching for a while, the lights went down and the opening act walked onto the stage.  It was at that moment I questioned why I didn’t have any earplugs to reduce the screams.  But the performances by the opener and the main act both surprised me – in a good way.  Read the rest of the review and see the photos after the jump!
