In case you don’t know by now, Voices of The Middle East is a unique program on UCLAradio.com. Every week the host, Khalid Seirafi, chooses a socio-political theme and discusses it from both Western and Middle Eastern perspectives. The show frequently features phone and live interviews with guests ranging from professors to students and activists. The program aims to focus on a different country from the region in every episode. It airs every Wednesday from 7-8PM, but in case you missed the last episode it is included here for your convenience. All future episodes will be uploaded to this blog as well, so check back and don’t miss out on this special listening experience.
Week 3: Syria
This show is on Syria, its renewed political influence in the region, its foreign relations, and economic development. This program features an interview with Dr. Joshua Landis, the Director of the Center for Middle East Studies and Associate Professor of Middle East Studies at the University of Oklahoma.Week 1: East Jerusalem Settlements
This show’s theme is the East Jerusalem settlements issue and the long-term implications of Israeli settlement policy on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. My guest to discuss this topic was the former president of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at UCLA and a fellow grad student in Islamic Studies, Khalid Hussein.
