The Bloody Beetroots//Death Crew 77//Sinden
Didn’t get tickets to the Bloody Beetroots at the Hollywood Palladium before it sold out? No worries. HARD has added a second night, and the masked men are back for round two this time flanked by a who’s who list of artists in the dance/electro scene including Sinden and Jokers of the Scene.
Performing live in Venom (ya know from Spiderman?) masks, The Bloody Beetroots (and Death Crew 77) have gained a passionate worldwide following, selling out venues across Europe. Described as a bastard son of the Misfits and Daft Punk, their music encompasses aspects of all types of genres, ranging from pop, punk, and hip-hop to classical music, house and techno. And with Death Crew 77 live on stage you will see all of the pieces of the music you are hearing, from the piano, to the drums to the guitars. This isn’t just a guy standing behind his laptop. It’s revolutionary. They know how to party.
So no bummin out that you missed on grabbing tickets for the Saturday show, because they are back by popular demand for round two on Sunday night. It’s gonna be an incredible show.

On April 16, 17, and 18, a miracle happened. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival proved to the world that not is all lost with music today (even though Justin Beiber rules the music tabloids). Coachella restored my faith in modern music because of strong sets from bands like MGMT, The Dead Weather, Them Crooked Vultures, LCD Soundsystem, Vampire Weekend, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Les Claypool, Pavement, Thom Yorke (with Flea on bass, honestly one of the coolest things I have ever seen), Devo, and of course Muse, who I will now bow down to and pray to the Music Gods for them to make a new album on a daily basis.

Zion I represented real hard at the 4th Mighty Mic awareness concert held at UCLA’s Ackerman Grand Ballroom on April 14th. While the event to raise awareness about the current crisis taking place in the Congo was informative, Zion I added the necessary sounds to motivate people into action. The booming sound system sufficiently carried the atmospheric compositions of DJ/producer AmpLive, while MC Zumbi’s animated lyrics kept the audience on their toes.

Vinyl lovers, vendors, and artisans gathered on April 11th for the 2nd anniversary of the Beat Swap Meet at the Grandstar Jazz Club in Chinatown. The tri-monthly event transforms the multi-level Grandstar into a crowded market full of wheelers and dealers haggling over prices of rare dusty records.
