TAKERS – In Theaters August 27

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

TakersVerdict: Takers is a star-studded, action packed movie sure to keep you on the edge of your seat!

Takers has a difficult task of taking the typical heist plot that we are all now familiar with and making it still interesting and unpredictable. The style and action that takes place throughout the film sets it apart from your average heist movie and makes this one worth watching!

The A-list cast, including Matt Dillon, Paul Walker, Michael Ealy, Idris Elba, Chris Brown, T.I., and Hayden Christensen, delivers a dramatic portrayal of a group of ridiculously good looking bank robbers on their biggest job yet, when the police start to get involved.

Tension mounts throughout the movie as the gang’s biggest heist doesn’t go according to plan. The trouble, chaos, and fighting that ensues delivers dramatic fight scenes and shootings that will satiate the avid suspense seeker. All the eye candy will satiate everyone else…

If you like drama, action, suspense or Paul Walker – I recommend seeing TAKERS this Friday!

“50 Bands to See Before You Die” – Q Magazine

In the music world, there are some bands that are considered the pillars of each genre. In the Electronic Dance Music World, there’s Chemical Brothers, Underworld, there’s Depeche Mode, and another one is ORBITAL.

From their 1st release in 1989 of “Chime” to the 1991 hit “Halycon” to “Time Becomes”, the “Box”, “Satan”, “Beached” and more, ORBITAL’s discography is like a historical account of what’s good in Dance music.

On top of their productions, their live sets are considered by such respected critics from Q Magazine as incomparable, and they have been always been included as part of one the, regardless of genre, “50 Bands to See Before You Die”.

Fresh from their gig at Coachella 2010, PHIL HARTNOLL of ORBITAL has decided to go INCOGNITO with a Technoldskoolacidbreaks set thats guaranteed to be LEGENDARY.

Time to go INCOGNITO. Because this where amazing cutting edge dance music happens.

Mobilee Records was launched in 2005 and quickly established itself as one of the brightest new stars in Berlin’s glittering galaxy of electronic music labels, producers and DJs. Founded and owned by Anja Schneider and Ralf Kollmann, the label boasts a sound that is simultaneously familiar and innovative. Based on the timeworn structures of house and techno, mobilee’s approach is a triple threat: its records reference vintage dancefloor minimalism, trade ideas with like-minded contemporaries, and suggest surprising new directions for a genre that has weathered both hype and backlash—yet keeps on clicking.

Hi Five mobilee! This summer the mobilee team are not just celebrating five successful years of the label, but also the fact that they are still loving what they do and there is a lot more to come! To mark the occasion with something special, they are organising a world tour across all continents, with a three-day Sonar extravaganza to get the ball rolling. They are also releasing a compilation featuring 16 exclusive tracks from mobilee artists and friends, and to accompany the album, there is a three part 250 copies limited edition vinyl series with selected tracks.

More than any particular stylistic hallmark, surprise is the defining characteristic of mobilee’s releases: rhythm becomes a game while drumbeats and acidic squiggles serve as playing chips, puzzle pieces, and rolling dice. mobilee’s palette is broad (and bright: you won’t find better sounding records, from the deepest sub-bass to the most crystalline highs), but no matter the sound source—from grinding machines to digital glitches—the groove is paramount. mobilee’s dubby, laid-back cuts are as quietly compelling as its anthems are immediate. Strings and rave stabs somersault through the grass; smoky voices throw shadows across the darkest corners of the club. Aspiring to be more than the manufacturer of simple DJ tools, mobilee publishes tracks full of finely turned hooks and hypnotic depths, the stuff of today’s charts and tomorrow’s classics.

Concert Review: Kings of Leon @ the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater

Friday, August 20th, 2010

730x362_Kings_Of_Leon

This post is really late but it’s because I’ve been working a lot and it’s summer. I might be a little rusty but here goes nothing. The first time I saw the Kings of Leon perform it was at KROQ’s Weenie Roast and it was shortly after Sex On Fire blew up. Since then I started to listen to the band more and more. So naturally I was happy to get another chance to see them perform at the same venue no less.

The Features
The Features was one of two opening bands for the Kings of Leon. They aren’t very well known here in America but they have done very well in the UK. They toured with Manchester Orchestra this Spring and I couldn’t wait to see them perform again. The band is very energetic and the crowd was into the songs. When they played ‘Lions’ the crowd got excited because it’s their most well-known song. Hopefully in the future this band will headline their own tour but until then I recommend checking them out. Especially if you’re a fan of Manchester Orchestra or Kings of Leon.

Built to Spill
Built to Spill was the second band to open for the Kings of Leon. By the time this band came out the crowd was too anxious to see the main band. They were interesting to listen to but I honestly was not paying much attention.

Kings of Leon
After the opening bands were done everyone was just anxious to see the Kings of Leon perform. They played some new songs and some old ones. For their encore they started off with Knocked Up. They of course played Sex On Fire which made everyone happy. I don’t know what it was about this show that didn’t do it for me. Usually at shows I get really excited when the opener comes out onstage but this time it was just fine. It was an okay show. I wouldn’t say it was amazing or exceptionally memorable but it was still good. I liked that they played a lot of songs from their older albums. In my mind this show isn’t as memorable as the countless other shows that I’ve been to. Maybe I was just having an off night or maybe it was the crowd. I love it when crowds are more into the songs than I am. It seemed to me that they only cared about hearing Sex On Fire and Use Somebody. This isn’t to say that I wouldn’t go to another Kings of Leon show. But hopefully next time they’ll play at a smaller more intimate venue. I’m sure other people thought this show was amazing and I’m just another person reviewing the same show using different words to describe it.

HARD Summer Music Festival @ LA State Historic Park

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010
August 7, 2010 12:00 amtoAugust 8, 2010 12:00 am

HARD fest has grown immensely over the last couple years from a small project began by Destructo to arguably the largest festival promotion company in the DJ/electronic music scene. After their M.I.A./N.E.R.D. July 17th show was cancelled last minute, HARD has made it their mission to throw all the chips into pot for one massive event. Enter HARD Summer Music Festival at the Los Angeles State Historic Park this Saturday, August 7th.

And when I say massive, I mean massive. We’re talking the top artists in the electronic scene like Soulwax, Major Lazer and Flying Lotus, one of the top artists of 2010 in Crystal Castles and some of my personal favorites of the moment in Theophilus London and The Gaslamp Killer. To say the least, it is going to be a rare opportunity to see all these phenomenal performers sharing the stage.

The festival kicks off at its incredible downtown site at noon and runs til midnight. Tickets for the event are $65. For more information on tickets, go to http://www.hardfest.com/hsmf10.php
