If all the All Star games were played on the same day and at the same time, what would you, the seasoned sports fan, watch?

All-star games are meant to please the fans and to show off the finest athletes usually voted in by the fans.  So the question still remains, which all-star game from the four major sports (Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Hockey) would be the most entertaining and competitive game?

Right off the bat you can scratch football off the board due to several reasons that will be revealed. Football is the top sport in the U.S., however their annual All Star game in Hawaii is widely considered by sport critics a “joke”.  First, the defense cannot “blitz” or cannot play any other coverage except for “zone” or “man to man” defense. Some say why even have defense since there are so many restrictions on defense and the all-star game should be a 7 on 7 game. Also, there is considerably less contact and intensity in the NFL All Star game.

The other major sport you can scratch off the board is the NHL due to being the considerably less popular from all the major sports and specially lacking the intensity, contact, and competiveness. However, this year the NHL tried to switch it up by having the players select the teams instead of having the traditional East versus West game.

This leaves the seasoned sports fan with two choices between NBA or MLB All Star game.  The most competitive game goes to the MLB because baseball players don’t hold back and pitchers show off their arsenal and they want to see how they measure up to that All Star who has 30 home runs. Each baseball player wants to see how they measure up with the best and in the MLB All Star game there are no game restrictions.

The NBA is the sexiest among the four major sports due to dunks and highlight plays that you will see on ESPN.  The competiveness in the NBA all Star game is lacking but when the fourth quarter starts this is when best players switch to “beast mode” and try to take over the game.  The NBA All Star game still feels like a “pick up” game however the fans are usually are left satisfied.

The MLB All Star game has that competiveness and excitement edge even though the entertainment edge goes to the NBA All Star game. So you, the seasoned sports fan, the best All Star game is the MLB just edging out the NBA based on competiveness. Luckily for technology, we can record the All Star games on our Tivos or DVRs.
