EL Padrinto Toys: My people! It’s your friend, El Padrinito Toys. We are here doing an interview at Interscope Records for UCLA Radio.
How did you get the name, “El Padrintio Toys”
El Padrinito Toys: Well the name Padrinito, In the musical world I already had that name and people know me as that. When I as about 14 or 13 years old, My friends started to say that back when I was making youtube videos. I had started with a group called, Markitos toys. They called me Padrinito, and the people started calling me toys because I was part of the group. And till this day we still have that group called toys, but just now I am are here focusing on singing instead.
How does it feel to be signed to Interscope Records?
El Padrinito Toys: It feels badass to be honest, thanks to god. All the opportunities since we got here at Interscope and at Universal with their studio here. We recorded a few songs here that are coming. It’s bad ass because you have the confidence to record here at your pleasure. For example, in Culiacan I can go record at whatever studio but it’s not the same as to come here to the United States and get to see other people’s energy. Other people here work differently than how they work in Culiacan.
How does it feel being 17 years old with such a quick rise to fame?
El Padrinito Toys: At times it feels weird, but also I feel and think each of us are at our own pace. It’s not how a lot of people think, “he recorded a few songs and blew up.” It wasn’t only me, it’s not just one person, it’s not just 1 product. There are many people who are constructing a business and I thank my parents for the support. They always told me from the start, “If you want to sing, go and do it.” and my siblings. Also, I say it’s weird because when I was younger, I always knew I would want to be someone big, someone everyone would listen to. I didn’t think it would be this fast, I thought the years I was filming Youtube videos that something would happen but I didn’t imagine for something this big. When I was filming videos that’s all I thought about and I didn’t imagine this. During those years filming videos I always asked myself how can I be a singer, how can I transition from videos to a singer. I didn’t know how I would do it but I knew I wanted to do it. Now I’ve learned and there’s still so much for me to learn and I’m here still learning.
Tell us about your upcoming song, “2 pa 2” with Oscar Ortiz
El Padrinitio Toys: How did the song 2 pa 2 come to be? We recorded the song already, I recorded with Oscar Ortiz, and we recorded a live version. At first the song was a corrido and then it changed to a bit more of a live version instead. We also added some new lyrics to it.
Is a new album on the way?
El Padrinito Toys: An EP is on the way full of covers along with an album in the future. Also there us many songs that were passed to me by Neton Vega with some other songs mentioned here in Interscope. In general the music I am doing now, I’m not only doing 1 genre. I want to do various genres and I want to do things with even Dominican artists. I am focused on many things such as not only having 1 producer. I want to have songs made by different producers, I want it to be all universal. This way the fans don’t get bored of the same thing every time.
It was a pleasure for the invite, thank you for the invite again!
