As I walked towards the Peacock theater, all of LA Live was lit with a purple tint color all around front the street lights to the lights beaming at the theater. And of course on the jumbotron screen you see the image of, “XOXO Tour Young Miko.” Fans are all over the streets packing out the front of the theater taking photos, selfies, videos and admiring the theater’s Young Miko inspired designs. Not only that, but all these fans were wearing pink and purple to support Young Miko’s favorite colors which she is very known for on her latest album cover. Seeing how packed Downtown LA was and how many fans were entering the theater you knew that tonight’s concert was about to be historic and special.
Young Miko is a female Puerto Rican reggaeton artist who recently came into the mainstream and took the music charts by storm. When Young Miko had announced her tour earlier this year, not only did it go trending all over social media but fans were going crazy because this was her first full on theater tour in the United States. And what better place to be performing than the iconic Peacock Theater in the heart of downtown LA. With the release of her newest debut album, “att” fans knew to come ready to dance, party and even cry a little. This new album that was released didn’t only have her hit reggaeton songs she’s always produced but we also got some songs which touch the heart and speak upon heartbreak and song loved ones. And that energy definitely transpired in the peacock arena at times which were the most personal times during Young Miko’s performance in which she connected with her fans on an intimate level.
Young Miko kicked off her performance by performing, “rookie of the year” which is the first song off her newest album. The song speaks upon her feeling as if she is still a rookie in this music industry but knowing that she definitely was the best new kid on the block. Young Miko starts off the song a lot slower and more acoustic than the digital version. We see her covered in front of a silk curtain while she is laying on a bed and singing the song softly. But as the song continues and the beat finally drops we see her hop off the bed and the curtain raise, this is when the party starts. For my first time seeing Young Miko live, she was such a great performer. She was running up and down the front of the stage interacting with fans from the left side of the theater all the way to the right. Once the party had started we heard all of her hit songs from, Oye Ma’, wiggy, dispo, tamagotchi, Chulo pt.2 , classy 101 and of course her world wide sensation Bzrp session.
From the acoustic sentimental parts of the show to the party dancing times, I feel the most memorable moment of this entire concert is when Miko had taken time to interact with her fans fan art they had made for her. Young Miko had gone around spending about 10 minutes reading all the posters that her fans had written out for her. This was so amazing because so many fans had amazing messages for her and she read them and would cry but at the same time some fans had very hilarious posters in which she couldn’t read out loud due to the fact of kids in the audience. Young Miko truly showed that she recognizes her fans and loves every single one of them. This concert was a concert in which you felt appreciated as a fan and where you felt like the artist really wanted you there. That is something that I feel Peacock theater is so good at, because going to a concert at a stadium you are just a small person in a station of 20,000 people but in peacock theater you truly are seen and appreciated for being a fan and supporter.
Young Miko will continue her tour across the U.S. for the rest of the year and she will continue to play another show in Los Angeles the following night as she has sold out 2 nights here in Los Angeles. It is safe to say, Los Angeles can’t get enough of Young Miko and it seems like Young Miko has taken love to Los Angeles. Young Miko’s newest album, “att” is on all streaming platforms and really exemplifies her evolution as an artist and person.
A huge thank you to AEG Presenta for making this night of making possible and for the best hospitality as always.
